Summer camp
You can read all practical information about our annual summer camp here.

General
Every year in the first week of the summer holidays, Jong Nederland de Fakkel and all its members go to summer camp. We always stay from Saturday to Friday at a beautiful and quiet location, usually in Noord-Brabant and sometimes outside of it. Of course, we do our utmost to make it a great edition every year together with our volunteers and we always hope that many members will come along. All basic information about a summer camp can be found on this page. Members who participate in the summer camp will receive a letter with the latest additional information, such as the address and a participation form, approximately eight weeks before the summer camp. Our advice is: read the information on this page carefully and keep the letter you receive until the summer camp is over; the information may be needed in case of emergency. Many children like to receive a card from home during the camp. You must send that card no later than the Tuesday of the summer camp; participating members will receive the postal address in the letter.
Participation fee & insurance
No later than three weeks before the summer camp, members who wish to participate must transfer a mandatory contribution. The amount of this contribution is determined annually. The current amount can be found on the Financial Matters page, as well as the account number for the transfer. Please state when transferring that it concerns camp money and also for whom the payment is being made! The person paying often has a different surname than the child's surname. We urgently request that you do not transfer the contribution and camp money at the same time via one transfer. We also point out that members can only participate in the summer camp if there are no outstanding contributions. If a member is unable to attend part of the camp (and therefore arrives later or leaves earlier), the amount of the camp money remains unchanged. If someone is unexpectedly unable or unwilling to attend, the camp money already paid will always be refunded in full.

For each participating member, a separate participation form must also be submitted to the staff members of their own group. You will receive this participation form with the letter that you receive eight weeks before the summer camp. The registration of a child for a summer camp is only complete when the payment and the participation form have been received by us on time.

Jong Nederland de Fakkel has accident insurance and third-party liability insurance for all camp participants. In addition, we have a materials insurance for the materials of Jong Nederland. The luggage of the children is not automatically insured. Everything that gets lost or broken during a summer camp is therefore in principle not insured. Anyone who wants to insure their own luggage must take out their own travel insurance.

Vertrek & terugkomst
For the members of most groups, the intention is that they are brought to the camp site by their parents/guardians. They are usually expected there on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 PM . We advise to make arrangements with other parents about carpooling. This way, not everyone has to drive twice and we do not have parking problems at the accommodation. We kindly ask you not to visit during the summer camp and hope that you can understand this. If children really suffer from homesickness or if there are other problems, we will contact the home front.

On Friday afternoon, the summer camp ends and we return to Eindhoven. The members then have to be picked up from the camp site, usually at 1:30 PM. All tents and other camp materials are returned to Eindhoven in large containers. It is always difficult to estimate when they will arrive, but we hope around 4:00 PM. It is always very nice if there are some parents ready to help us unload and clean up.

The members of some older groups often travel to and from the camp site in an alternative way, for example by bike or public transport. If this is the case, they make arrangements within their own group. Anyone who has questions about this can contact the staff members of the group in question.
Luggage & Lost and Found
For members who are brought to the camp site by their parents/guardians, the intention is that they bring their own luggage. For members of groups who are not brought by their parents/guardians but go to the camp site in an alternative way, it applies that they make agreements within their own group about returning the luggage; this will be taken along in the containers.
We ask you to pack everything in a good suitcase or bag. Label your luggage well and pack the suitcase or bag together with your child. We also ask you to provide a good quality air mattress, because every year there are children who bring a leaky air mattress. Minors and maxiors are not allowed to bring pocket money; older members make agreements about pocket money in their own group. Members also make agreements in their own group about bringing a mobile phone. Bringing phones and other equipment is always at your own risk. A handy packing list with items that we recommend packing can be downloaded here.

Every year we have a large pile of lost and found items. Many of these items are never collected again. On the Saturday after our return we will be present in our building on the Fakkellaan between 12:00 AM and 2:00 PM to clean up. You can then come and look for any missing items until 2:00 PM. If you find something in your child's suitcase that is not yours, you can also hand it in that afternoon. The rightful owner will thank you for this.

Particulars
If your child needs to take medication, please give the medication, including the name and instructions for use, to the staff members of your own group. They will then ensure that the medication is provided to and taken by your child. If there are any restrictions for your child regarding food and/or drink or if your child needs to be woken up at night, please also let the staff members of your own group know. The same applies to children with a special diet. We want and can take many things into account, but we do need to know in advance! If it is known that your child wets the bed, for example, please bring a spare sleeping bag and air mattress and at least one spare pyjama. We have two or three spare sleeping bags with us, but we do not have spare air mattresses. We also provide normal sunscreen, for example. If necessary, you can give your child an anti-mosquito stick and stingweg/azaron. Children without a swimming certificate must bring their own armbands. We also advise everyone to bring water shoes.
